Thursday September 12

Alive (once living) or Not?

Students were asked to discuss, in their groups, what classifies something as living.  They were then given 6 items and asked to determine if they thought the object was Alive or Not?  They had to cite 2 pieces of evidence for their reasoning.  This was completed in their notebooks.  After discussion we revealed six characteristics all living things share and students were asked to reevaluate their decisions and justifications.

Wednesday September 11

Today we tested over the following standards:
SEPS.2:  Developing and using models and tools (we studied how to use the microscope to collect and record data)
7.LS.1a:  I can investigate and observe cells in living things (we studied scientists who developed the cell theory;  we will continue to cover this standard more fully in the next couple of weeks)

Monday Sept. 9

Today we are reviewing for a test on Wednesday.  The test will cover microscope parts, the Cell Theory and the scientists who contributed to the Cell Theory.  Students completed a Versatile review then began a written review that is due tomorrow!  I have posted pictures below.

Wednesday September 4

Today students completed a lab in which they practiced using the microscopes to focus the image of a specimen.  They also practiced good sketching techniques.  The microscope lab is due tomorrow.  There will be a formative on microscope parts.

Here is a link to a quizlet for the Microscope Parts and Cell Theory Scientists.
