Wednesday/ Thursday August 30 & 31
The students have set up their folders for a new unit on body works.
They were put into groups to brainstorm organs and make drawings of where they think the organs are located and what they think the organs look like. They also needed to write what they believed to be the function of the organ.

Today we created a "cover page" for our science notebooks. Each student was given a 3-prong folder that they will use for the science notebook. All information such as labs, notes, and vocabulary will be kept in this notebook. On the cover page students are asked to draw things that they relate to the human body and how it works.
We also watched a video on Diabetes and discussed how knowing about how the organs in the body work we can manage, prevent, and even cure diseases and help us live a healthier life. Please click on the link below to watch the video.

Students are doing an activity in class that requires them to be a detective and solve a mystery. They are collecting evidence and trying to determine who caused a bicycle accident. This is an introduction to the scientific method and the process of scientific observation. Below is the bellwork and worksheet, as well as the still pictures of the accident site. Unfortunately the video of witness testimony's is too large to upload. Students can view these in class tomorrow.
Students made observations on the worksheet. Their homework is to determine who caused the accident and WHY! Students must use observations they took as evidence to support their reasoning.
Horace Breem was driving the car
Rodney Doorf was riding the bike
The accident took place at 4:45 am Sept. 4, 1991
Rodney claims that Mr. Breem was speeding and purposely ran into him.
Mr. Breem states that Rodney came "out of nowhere" and ran into the side of his car.
The following still photographs follow the order in the worksheet.

Today we passed out two handouts about the Solar Eclipse. Students read about parts of the eclipse and we discussed why we will see only 98-99% totality here in Evansville on August 21. There are 6 questions that students should complete for tomorrow's class. You can find the notes below. There are pictures of the handouts in the notes, but students will need to get the handout in class tomorrow.

Today, we discussed how important it is to train our brains to think creatively. As well as thinking creatively, we also need to practice other important skills such as being observant. We also set up our science notebooks.
Below is our Bellwork challenge. If you click on the "How observant are you?" you can watch the video. The notes were just for discussion. They do not need to be written in the notebooks.
