Friday September 29

Today we watched the documentary "Everest".  Here is a summary from IMDb:
An international team of climbers ascends Mt. Everest in the spring of 1996. The film depicts their lengthy preparations for the climb, their trek to the summit, and their successful return to Base Camp. It also shows many of the challenges the group faced, including avalanches, lack of oxygen, treacherous ice walls, and a deadly blizzard.

Wednesday-Thursday September 27-28

We've allotted this time for students who wish to present their projects.  I've been so impressed with the detail and creativity the students have displayed in their projects!  All projects were to be turned in on my Google Classroom site!

Tuesday September 26

Work day for Digestive System Project!

Today, we had a workday for our digestive system projects.  The projects are due Wednesday, 9/27.  When you have completed your project, please submit it to Google Classroom.
Monday September 25

Monday, Sept. 25

Today we are doing an experiment that models the human digestive system.  We’re learning about mechanical and chemical digestion.  In the experiment mechanical digestion is represented by breaking an antacid tablet into small pieces and timing how long it takes to dissolve in vinegar. Vinegar is the chemical digestive process. Students will develop an experiment to model this and determine what happens if you change the food particle size. Make sure and read Activity 14 found on pages B-19 to B-21 and watch the video below.

Friday September 22

We used today to allow students to begin work on their Digestive System projects.  Each student must do their own research, but they had the option of working with a partner on the presentation.  The students are off to a good start.  A general overview and the project rubric are shown below.
*Some students asked if they could bring in the food that they are featuring in their projects.  This is fine as long as they have cleared with me what they are bringing.
Projects are due this Wednesday Sept. 27.
Please email me with any concerns.

Summative Test over Body Works tomorrow!!!  Study your resources!  Scroll down for the Review Answer Key.  Yesterday's blog also has some suggestions for how to study for your test!

Don't forget how you develop from a cell to the wonderful multicellular organism you are!!!

Cells form tissues, which form organs, which form organ systems, which make you!!!

Thursday / Friday September 7-8

The next few days we will work on recording the functions of the different body systems as well as the functions of the organs in each system using foldables. Below are the slides we covered along with a foldable example.

Wednesday September 6, 2017

Students are filling out a "Functions of Human Body Systems" worksheet to help keep the organ functions and systems organized.  We will also be using a model to help explain where the organs are located and what they look like.

Tuesday September 5

Today, after bell work, we took the time to allow students to complete Friday's lab activity. We then discussed the correct placement of organs in their systems and students corrected their notebooks. The correct placements are listed below.  If you were absent today, please cross out organs that were placed incorrectly and write in organs where they should be.'

Friday September 1

In class today, students worked in lab groups to read through the jobs of 8 different body systems.  They were then given cards with the names of different organs.  Students began to classify the organs into their systems based on prior knowledge.  This was then recorded into their notebooks.
